The primary goal of the biotechnology program is to provide students with experience in biotechnology principles, techniques and applications to enable students to explore potential career options in the field of biotechnology. This hands-on laboratory program uses the latest laboratory equipment to learn the principles of scientific investigation as applied to medicine, forensics, agriculture, genetic engineering and environmental health. Specified problem-solving protocols include separating molecules, DNA, and protein analysis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), microbiology and immunology.

Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing industries in the nation, with high demand  entry-level workers and two-year college graduates. In the last 25 years, the US biotechnology industry has has created more than 118,000 high quality jobs at pharmaceutical, agricultural, and industrial companies as well as academic and government agencies.
   The Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center, Cambria County Area Community College, and Mount Aloysius College have entered into a unique 2+2+2 articulation agreement in biotechnology. The seamless transition among the institutions will allow students to enter or exit at any level.
